Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated February 12, 2026
1. Introduction
This Acceptable Use Policy (“Policy”) governs your use of Zora.com (“Platform”), including through any associated mobile or web applications, and the trading of Trends and Trend pairs (“Pairs”) using crypto tokens on the Platform. This Policy supplements, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. In the event of a conflict between this Policy and our general Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, this Policy shall take precedence with respect to Trends-related activity.
Zora allows users to trade tokenized representations of real-time cultural trends and to create or trade Pairs, which associate third-party content with those trends. Trends reflect real-time market activity and user interest, and their presence on the Platform does not constitute endorsement, promotion, or approval by Zora of the underlying subject matter. Zora generally does not curate which topics trend, and Trends should not be interpreted as representing Zora’s values, opinions, or positions on any topic.
Certain baseline safeguards are necessary to prevent the Platform from being used in ways that are illegal or cause serious harm. This Policy sets out those boundaries. Violating this Policy may result in the removal of content, restriction of trading privileges, or other actions as described in Section 8 (Enforcement).
2. Scope
This Policy applies to all users of the Platform who interact with the Platform, including but not limited to:
Creating, naming, or listing new Trends
Creating, naming or linking Pairs associated with a Trend
Buying, selling, or holding Trend or Pair tokens
Any promotional activity related to Trends or Pairs, including on third-party platforms
For the avoidance of doubt, this Policy applies to the text, names, symbols, and metadata of Trends and Pairs. Any third-party content referenced, uploaded, or otherwise associated with a Trend or Pair (e.g., an external article, video, or social media post) is governed by the Terms of Service, except to the extent that such content is incorporated into the Trend or Pair name, description, or imagery displayed on the Platform.
3. General Principles
3.1 Trends Reflect the Market, Not Zora
Zora is designed to reflect real-time cultural attention. The appearance of any Trend or Pair on the Platform is driven by user activity and market dynamics. Zora does not endorse, sponsor, or take a position on any Trend topic, and the presence of a Trend on the Platform should not be interpreted as Zora expressing a view on the underlying subject matter.
Zora’s role is to maintain the integrity of the market and to intervene only where a Trend or Pair crosses the specific thresholds set out in this Policy. We aim to keep these thresholds narrow and clearly defined, so that users can trade with confidence about what is and is not permitted.
3.2 User Obligations
When using Zora, you agree to:
Not create Trends or Pairs with names, descriptions, or metadata that violate this Policy or applicable law
Not use the Platform in any way that is deceptive, fraudulent, or misleading
Not use the Platform to harass, abuse, threaten, or intimidate any individual or group
Not use the Platform to evade the restrictions in this Policy through coded language, deliberate misspellings, or other obfuscation techniques
Zora reserves the right to interpret Trend and Pair names contextually. We assess content based on its most reasonably understood meaning, taking into account current cultural context, coded language, and intent.
4. Prohibited Activities
You may not create, name, trade, or promote any Trend or Pair that falls within the following categories. This section uses defined terms, which are set out in Section 6 (Definitions).
4.1 Hate Speech
You may not create or trade Trends or Pairs that contain or reference:
Semantically harmful slurs that target a Protected Attribute and are not used in a clear re-appropriation context
Words or phrases that promote, endorse, or spread Hateful Ideologies, including claims of supremacy over a Protected Group, hateful conspiracy theories targeting a Protected Group (such as the “Great Replacement Theory” or claims that a religious or ethnic group secretly controls institutions), and symbols or imagery associated with hateful movements
Content that dehumanizes, calls for the exclusion of, or incites discrimination against individuals or groups based on their Protected Attributes
For the avoidance of doubt, Protected Attributes include: caste, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, immigration status, national origin, race, religion, serious disease, sex, sexual orientation, and tribe. Hateful Ideologies are systems of beliefs that exclude, oppress, or otherwise discriminate against individuals based on their Protected Attributes.
4.2 Violent Organizations and Promotion of Violence
You may not create or trade Trends or Pairs that:
Provide material support to, or promote or praise violence caused by, Violent Political Organizations, Hateful Organizations, Violent Criminal Organizations, or Violent Extremist Entities
Glorify, celebrate, or provide material support to individuals who have committed mass or serial violence, or who promote Hateful Ideologies
Promote, incite, or threaten violence against any individual, group, or institution, including through phrases such as “death to [group],” calls for ethnic cleansing, or coded references to political violence
Financialize events of mass violence, terrorism, or atrocities in a manner that glorifies or trivializes the harm caused
Create a financial incentive for violence against a specific identifiable person, regardless of how the Trend or Pair is framed (for example, a Trend or Pair structured as a prediction or wager on whether a named individual will be physically harmed)
Display or reference graphic depictions of real-world violence, including through Pair previews that surface violent or gory content from third-party sources (such as depictions of executions, torture, mutilation, or mass casualty aftermath)
Creating a Trend or Pair that names a designated terrorist organization, sanctioned entity, or mass violence perpetrator and is structured in a way that directs financial value toward supporting, celebrating, or memorializing such actors will be treated as a violation of this section regardless of stated intent.
4.3 Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
You may not create or trade Trends or Pairs that share, reference, promote, solicit, or normalize child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form, including through coded language. This includes Trends or Pairs that:
Reference, glorify, or normalize the sexual exploitation or abuse of youth
Use known coded terminology associated with CSAM distribution or pro-contact movements
Sexualize youth in any way, including through fictional or animated depictions
This is a zero-tolerance category. Violations will result in immediate and permanent account termination and may be reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant law enforcement authorities.
4.4 Non-Consensual Sexual Content and Image-Based Abuse
You may not create or trade Trends or Pairs that:
Show, promote, or reference non-consensual sexual acts
Reference, facilitate, or financialize image-based sexual abuse, including “revenge pornography,” non-consensual intimate imagery, deepfake pornography, or hidden-camera sexual content
Reference or promote the use of substances or methods to facilitate sexual assault
4.5 Suicide and Self-Harm
You may not create or trade Trends or Pairs that directly facilitate suicide or self-harm methods, specifically:
Trends or Pairs that share or promote detailed methods or instructions for suicide or self-harm
Trends or Pairs structured to direct financial value toward specific acts of suicide or self-harm (e.g., a Trend named after a specific method with trading activity that functions as a bounty or reward)
For the avoidance of doubt, trends relating to mental health awareness, suicide prevention, crisis support, or general public discourse around these topics are not prohibited.
4.6 Sexual Services
You may not create or trade Trends or Pairs that directly facilitate or solicit sexual services, specifically:
Trends or Pairs that function as a marketplace or direct solicitation mechanism for sexual services, sexual acts, or transactional sexual activity
Trends or Pairs that facilitate the non-consensual distribution of intimate or sexual content
4.7 Regulated and Illegal Activities
You may not use Trends to directly facilitate any of the following:
Human trafficking or forced labor
Money laundering, terrorist financing, or sanctions evasion
Sale or trafficking of illegal weapons or explosives
This section targets the direct use of the Platform as a mechanism to facilitate these activities (e.g., using a trend as a coordination or payment channel). It does not prohibit Trends or Pairs that reference or discuss these topics in a general or newsworthy context.
4.8 Spam and Duplicate Tickers
To maintain market quality and a useful trading experience, you may not:
Create multiple Trends or Pairs that are substantially identical or near-identical to existing trends, including through minor spelling variations, character substitutions, or trivial reformulations
Use automated tools or bots to create large volumes of Trends or Pairs in a manner that floods the market or degrades the usability of discovery surfaces
Coordinate with other accounts to create duplicate or near-duplicate tickers for the purpose of artificially dominating discovery surfaces
Zora may consolidate, delist, or reduce the visibility of Trends and Pairs that contribute to ticker spam, even where no individual ticker violates another provision of this Policy. This is a market quality measure, not a content judgment, and it applies regardless of the subject matter of the trend.
5. Intellectual Property
Trends and Pairs are user-created tickers that reflect real-time cultural attention. By their nature, they will reference brands, public figures, creative works, and other third-party subject matter. Zora does not review or approve Trend or Pair tickers for intellectual property rights, and the existence of a ticker referencing a third party does not imply any affiliation with, endorsement by, or authorization from that third party.
5.1 Third-Party Rights Holder Requests
If you are a rights holder and believe that a Trend or Pair infringes your intellectual property rights, you may submit a notice in accordance with the DMCA process set forth in Section 12 (Intellectual Property Rights) of the Terms of Service. Zora will review valid requests and may take action where required by applicable law or legal process.
Zora is not obligated to remove a Trend or Pair ticker solely because it references a third-party name, brand, or public figure. Tickers are short-form identifiers that reflect market interest and attention, and such references are generally referential in nature rather than indicative of affiliation, endorsement, or authorization.
5.2 User Responsibility
You are solely responsible for ensuring that the Trends and Pairs you create comply with applicable intellectual property laws. Zora does not provide legal advice on whether a specific ticker may implicate third-party rights. If a Trend or Pair you created is the subject of a valid legal complaint or lawful request, Zora may take action including removal of the Trend or Pair without compensation.
6. Definitions
The following definitions apply throughout this Policy:
Protected Attributes are personal characteristics that a person is born with, are immutable, or the forced change of or attack upon which would cause severe psychological harm. Protected Attributes include: caste, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, immigration status, national origin, race, religion, serious disease, sex, sexual orientation or tribe.
Protected Group means any group of individuals who share one or more Protected Attributes.
Hateful Ideology means a system of beliefs that excludes, oppresses, or otherwise discriminates against individuals based on their Protected Attributes. Examples include white supremacy, misogyny, anti-LGBTQ+ hate, antisemitism, and Islamophobia.
Hateful Organization means a group that targets people based on Protected Attributes, dehumanizes others, and promotes Hateful Ideologies.
Violent Political Organization means a non-state actor that commits violent acts primarily against state actors (such as a national military), rather than civilians, as part of ongoing political disputes (such as territorial claims).
Violent Criminal Organization means a non-state group that engages primarily in criminal violence (e.g., drug cartels, organized crime syndicates, criminal gangs) for financial gain.
Violent Extremist Entity means a non-state group or individual that engages in, or advocates for, violence against civilians to advance political, religious, ethnic, or ideological objectives, in ways recognized as violating international norms.
Trend means a tokenized representation of a real-time cultural, social, or informational trend that is tradeable on the Platform.
Pair means a tokenized association between a Trend and a piece of third-party content (such as a social media post, article, or media item) that is tradeable on the Platform.
Material Support includes financial contributions, recruitment, logistical assistance, or any other tangible or intangible support that furthers the objectives of a prohibited organization or individual.
7. Contextual Assessment
Zora recognizes that language is complex and context-dependent. In enforcing this Policy, we consider the following factors:
Re-appropriation: Certain terms that would otherwise constitute slurs may be used in a re-appropriation context by members of the affected community. Where a Trend or Pair name uses a slur in a context that is clearly reclamatory and not directed at harming the relevant Protected Group, we may exercise discretion.
Newsworthiness: Trends that reference real-world events, public figures, or current affairs will be assessed for whether their primary purpose is informational or whether they serve to financialize harm. A Trend named after a newsworthy event is not prohibited, but one that glorifies or trivializes violence, hate, or abuse associated with that event may be.
Coded language and evasion: We monitor for deliberate attempts to circumvent this Policy through coded language, deliberate misspellings, symbol substitutions, or other obfuscation techniques. Trends and Pairs that are determined to use evasion tactics to reference prohibited content will be treated as violations.
8. Reporting
If you encounter a Trend or Pair that you believe violates this Policy, you can report it by:
Using the in-app reporting feature on the Trend or Pair page
Contacting our team via email at support@zora.com or at https://support.zora.com
We review all reports and aim to take initial action within 24 hours where feasible. Where a Trend or Pair is reported and found to involve CSAM, we will aim to take action as quickly as possible and may report the matter to relevant law enforcement authorities.
9. Enforcement
We enforce this Policy through a range of measures, which may be applied individually or in combination depending on the severity and nature of the violation:
Action | Description |
Trend/Pair Removal | The offending Trend or Pair is delisted from the Platform. Existing token holders may be unable to trade the removed Trend or Pair. |
Trading Restriction | The user’s ability to create new Trends or Pairs, or to trade existing ones, is temporarily or permanently restricted. |
Account Suspension | The user’s account is temporarily suspended pending review. |
Account Termination | The user’s account is permanently terminated. This action is reserved for serious or repeated violations, including any violation of Section 4.3 (CSAM). |
Token Forfeiture | Tokens associated with a violating Trend or Pair may be frozen or rendered non-tradeable. Zora will not compensate users for losses arising from enforcement of this Policy. |
Law Enforcement Referral | In cases involving suspected criminal activity, including CSAM, terrorism financing, or threats of imminent violence, Zora may report the matter to relevant authorities. |
Temporary Trading Restriction | In exceptional circumstances, such as during acute real-world crisis events, Zora may temporarily restrict trading on specific Trends and Pairs. See Section 9.1 below. |
Zora applies enforcement proportionally. We distinguish between:
Immediate removal without warning for zero-tolerance violations (such as CSAM and terrorism financing)
Removal with warning for first-time violations of other categories, where the violation appears unintentional
Escalating enforcement (restriction, suspension, termination) for repeated violations or violations that appear deliberate
You may appeal an enforcement action by contacting us via email at support@zora.com or at https://support.zora.com. Appeals will be reviewed by a member of the Trust & Safety team who was not involved in the original decision where practicable.
9.1 Crisis Events and Temporary Trading Restrictions
During acute real-world crisis events (such as mass casualty incidents, natural disasters, or other events involving significant loss of life), Zora may, at its sole discretion, temporarily restrict or suspend trading on Trends directly associated with the event. This is a market quality measure intended to prevent the Platform from being used in a manner that is exploitative, harmful, or inconsistent with community standards during sensitive real-world circumstances.
Temporary restrictions under this section are not content judgments and do not imply that the Trend itself violates this Policy. They are time-limited interventions applied at Zora’s discretion and will be lifted once the acute phase of the event has passed. Zora is not obligated to apply temporary restrictions to every crisis event and will exercise this discretion on a case-by-case basis.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our products, applicable law, or emerging risks. Where we make material changes, we will notify users through the Platform or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the Platform after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
11. Relationship to Other Policies
This Policy supplements and should be read together with the following:
Zora Terms of Service (including Section 9: Prohibited Activities)
Zora Community Guidelines for all User Generated Content
Where this Policy imposes a stricter standard than the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, this Policy prevails for Trends-related activity. Where the Terms of Service or Community Guidelines impose obligations not addressed in this Policy (for example, intellectual property obligations), those obligations continue to apply.
In particular, the following obligations set out in the Terms of Service apply to all Trends-related activity and are incorporated by reference:
Age requirements: You must meet the minimum age requirements set out in the Terms of Service to use the Platform, including trading or creating Trends and Pairs.
Sanctions compliance: You must comply with all applicable sanctions laws and regulations, including those administered by OFAC, the EU, and the UK. You may not use the Platform if you are located in, or are a resident or national of, any jurisdiction subject to comprehensive sanctions, or if you are a person or entity designated on any applicable sanctions list. Zora may restrict or terminate access where required by applicable sanctions laws.
