Explainer: Our New Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: February 2026
As Zora grows, we are publishing a formal Acceptable Use Policy that sets out what is and is not allowed on the platform, specifically when it comes to creating and trading Trends and Pairs. This page explains what is in the policy, why it exists, and how we enforce it.
The full Acceptable Use Policy is the legally governing document and is incorporated into our Terms of Service. This explainer is here to make it easy to understand. If anything here conflicts with the full policy, the full policy applies.
Why this Policy Exists
Zora is built on openness. Anyone can create tokens around a topic, moment, or idea, and anyone can trade it. But openness does not mean anything goes. Because tokens are tradeable and visible to everyone on the platform, we need baseline rules to prevent the platform from being used in ways that are illegal, that cause serious harm, or that undermine the experience for other users.
Our new policy draws a narrow line. We do not police opinions, edgy humor, or political commentary. We care about direct harm — content that hurts people, breaks the law, or turns the platform into a tool for abuse.
What the policy prohibits
Here is a summary of what is not allowed. The full definitions and examples are in the Acceptable Use Policy.
Hate speech. Tokens that attack people based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics. This includes slurs as ticker names, supremacist ideology, and dehumanizing content.
Violence and violent organizations. Supporting terrorist or extremist organizations. Glorifying mass violence. Threatening individuals or groups. Creating tokens structured as bounties or prediction markets on whether a named person will be harmed.
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Any tokens involving the sexual exploitation of youths in any form. This is a zero-tolerance category, which leads to immediate permanent ban and referral to law enforcement.
Non-consensual sexual content. Revenge porn, deepfakes, and any intimate imagery shared without consent.
Suicide and self-harm. Sharing methods or instructions, or structuring tokens to facilitate acts of self-harm.
Sexual services. Soliciting or facilitating sexual services through tokens.
Illegal activity. Using the platform to facilitate human trafficking, money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion, or weapons trafficking.
Graphic violence in Pairs. Pairs that surface gory or violent real-world content through link previews from external sources.
Spam and duplicate tickers. Flooding the platform with identical or near-identical tickers, or using bots to mass-create tokens.
How we enforce it
Our Trust & Safety team reviews reports from users and may also proactively identify violations. When we find a violation, we take enforcement action proportional to the severity. This may include removing the Trend or Pair, issuing a warning, restricting your account, or in serious cases, suspending or terminating your account.
For zero-tolerance categories such as CSAM, we will impose a permanent ban and refer you to law enforcement.
We may also consider context and patterns of behavior when making enforcement decisions, not just the individual piece of content in isolation.
Crisis events
During major real-world crises such as mass casualty events, terrorist attacks and natural disasters, we may temporarily restrict trading on specific tokens to prevent the platform from being used in ways that are exploitative or harmful during sensitive moments. These restrictions are temporary, case-by-case, and lifted when the acute situation passes.
Reporting
If you see something on the platform that you believe violates our policies, please report it:

We review every report. For privacy and operational reasons, we may not always be able to share the outcome of a specific report, but every report is taken seriously and contributes to keeping the platform safe for everyone.
This policy will evolve
We are building a new platform for cultural attention, and the challenges we face will change over time. We may update the policy as new issues emerge, and we may take action against content that violates the spirit of the policy even where it isn't explicitly covered in the current version. We will do our best to notify you when we make changes. Thank you for being part of our community.
